Studies have shown that anticipation of a vacation is at least as enjoyable as the vacation itself, and I know this to be true.  The months leading up to any trip are thoroughly enjoyable for us, as we research, seek out videos and blogs, read books and watch movies to immerse ourselves in a destination long before we get there.

And whenever we return from a trip, our thoughts naturally turn to the next one. This might sound quite odd to some–after all, can’t we just enjoy the memories from the trip we just took? Well, of course we do, we spend countless evenings recalling and discussing all of the wonderful things we saw and ate and heard and did on each trip. We also talk about our planning, and what worked, what we could have done differently, to help inform future travels. This has been key for us in refining how we go about planning a trip, especially the more exotic or adventurous locations we have visited.

But make no mistake: we are always, always planning the next trip. And even sometimes the one after that. For us, travel is living.

Talking about travel, whether a weekend getaway or a far-flung destination that’s on our “someday” list, brings us happiness in the the same way that discussing your favorite sports team might do for you.

With the summer season upon us (even if it doesn’t quite feel like it, weather-wise), we are considering a few day trips from Boston, and are thoroughly enjoying planning these as much as we did our Thailand adventure.

So, pour yourself a favorite beverage, and engage in a little armchair-planning today, whether it’s across town, across the country, or on the other side of the globe.

Where’s your next adventure? We’re working on ours…
